70+ People Fed in Hayward, WI

On August 6, 2025, the kitchen at First Lutheran in Hayward was alive with the aromas of good food, the sounds of laughter, and the warmth of fellowship. Volunteers from Ascension Episcopal Church in Hayward, joined by members from across our Northern Highlands Benefice, came together with one purpose—to prepare a meal and share God’s love with our neighbors through warm presence, cheerful hearts, and welcoming smiles.

Thanks to the dedicated hands and cheerful hearts of volunteers from Ascension and our sister parishes, over 70 people were served a delicious, home-cooked meal. From setting tables and preparing food to washing dishes and offering a smile, every person’s contribution made the evening a blessing.

In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us:

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.
— Matthew 25:35

This spirit of service was alive and well as friends, new and old, gathered not only to eat but to experience community.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who came out to cook, serve, clean, and share in fellowship, and to those who gave generously through monetary gifts and donations. Every contribution, whether of time, talent, or resources, played a vital role in making this ministry possible. Your willingness to serve is a reflection of the love of Christ in action. Together, we are not just feeding bodies—we are nourishing souls.

I envision a time when we could do the same at the Benjamin House in Rice Lake, powered by Grace Episcopal Church. I know there has long been a desire to re-create something similar to St. Alban’s Table, which was sustained by St. Alban’s and St. Luke’s. If we join together as a Benefice to make our mark in the Northwoods as Episcopalians, nothing will be impossible.

May this ministry continue to remind us that when we serve others, we are serving Christ Himself.

With gratitude and blessing,

Mother Nozipho P.S. Dlodlo

Rector, Northern Highlands Benefice
