What We believe
The four churches of the Northern Highlands Benefice—Grace in Rice Lake, St. Alban’s in Spooner, St. Luke’s in Springbrook, and Ascension in Hayward—share a common faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to practicing that faith in our local communities within the Diocese of Wisconsin.
We are part of The Episcopal Church, a tradition that blends ancient liturgy and open-hearted inquiry, grounded in scripture, reason, and tradition. Our churches may be local, but our welcome is wide, and our hope is deep.
What is the Episcopal Church?
The Episcopal Church is part of the global Anglican Communion, with over 85 million members worldwide. Rooted in the Church of England, the Episcopal Church in the U.S. formed after the American Revolution and has since become a home for those seeking thoughtful worship, meaningful community, and a faith that embraces both reverence and relevance.
We are:
Liturgical and sacramental (we worship in the rhythms of prayer and Eucharist)
Centered on Jesus, guided by scripture, and open to mystery
Governed by both lay and ordained voices
Committed to justice, peace, and reconciliation
A church where EVERYONE belongs

A Church Where Everyone Belongs?
In the Northern Highlands Benefice, we believe that the love of God knows no bounds. We practice a radical welcome, affirming the sacred worth of every person.
We welcome all people — regardless of age, race, gender, orientation, background, or belief history
We affirm and celebrate LGBTQ+ persons as they are in all aspects of church life, including marriage and ordination
We support lay leadership and women in ministry
We believe doubt and faith can live side by side
We see service, justice, and community care as part of our call
Our worship is reverent but accessible. Our prayers are ancient but grounded in the present. Our tables are open — and there’s always room for one more.
